I'm not trying to be hater, truly. As a health educator graduate, I am ALL for someone trying to better their life in 2014, really. I support and would help anyone with any goals they want to set to be healthier and happier in the New Year. But, here are three reasons to explain what I'm trying to say.
Reason 1: Acute and temporary
I'm just not in full throttle of NYR's because they fade, quickly. This picture explains it well:
I laughed endlessly when I saw this.
Now, if I could add one more caption to this picture, it would be a copy-paste of "Gym in December" underneath it and I would replace December with February.
It's like we walk into a New Year fired up as ever to better something in our life and not even a month later, we're back to our regular, mundane life. Whether it's for fitness, spirituality, or whatever goal we set. We go hard for a couple weeks, then it's like we run out of fuel and slow down. Next thing you know, three months go by and we haven't pursued or faught for that goal.
Reason 2: What about the rest of the year?
Nothing is stopping you from bettering your life every single day all year round. Why wait for January when A: It may not come, and B: You could start in July, be that much more ahead, and have bigger and better goals for the coming year?
The idea is to constantly be growing and aspiring new dreams and goals. Don't put it off for a new year. What's stopping you other than yourself at being the best you can be on a regular basis?
Reason 3: Too selfish
Obviously everyone is out to do better for themselves. That's fine and dandy, however, I have a problem with that.
We get so caught up looking in the mirror, that we forget the imagines around us.
So many people are hurting out there, what can we do to walk into a new year helping others more? What can I do in 2014 to share my talents and gifts with others more often? How can I volunteer some time where it's needed?
Like I said, I'm all about an individual bettering their life, but let us not forget the importance of others, too. Let's help each other reach new goals. Let's share our love and encouragement to those who are trying to be better. Sometimes, we can be the shove one needs to reach a goal. So, don't get too caught up in self-goals. Sometimes helping others ends up helping yourself. Keep thought of the big picture at hand.
Stay blessed going into the new year. Set big goals and keep dreaming and aspiring all year long. Remember, growth happens on a daily basis. Don't be complacent or satisfied. Work at life every single day.Be the best you can be every day. Smile huge and shine bright, regularly.
